Things to do

Please find a list of the more popular things to do in and around Hermanus below.  All of these are close to Dolphin House.  There are many more activities available in the area.  We will be very happy to tell you more about these and assist you with bookings.  It is advisable to book whale watching and shark diving trips before you arrive.

 

Whale Whatching

Hermanus is well known as one of the best land based whale watching sites in the world.  From June to the end of November whales may be spotted close to shore.   There is a coastal path that winds its way all along the shoreline that enhances the whale watching experience.  For an even closer look at the whales you may want to join one of the many whale watching boat trips that depart from Hermanus harbour.

 

Shark Diving

For the more adventurous,  shark cage diving trips are offered near the fishing village of Gansbaai.  During these trips you are offered the unique opportunity of seeing a Great White Shark close up.  You can also partake in the experience from the safety and comfort of the boat.

 

Wine Route

Wine lovers should include a trip to the Hemel en Aarde Valley in their itinerary.  The 15 award winning wine farms in the valley offers outstanding wines and there are also some exceptional restaurants on this route,  The wine routs starts 8 kilometers from Dolphin House.

 

Walking

The cliffpath is a mere 50 meters from Dolphin House and a leisurely stroll along this path is highly recommended.  Fernkloof Nature Reserve is also a short distance away for those that enjoy hiking in the mountains.  Paths of varying lengths are available depending on your level of fitness and time constraints.

 

Golfing

For those who enjoy golfing the excellent Hermanus Golf Course is close by,  The Arabella Golf Course which is rated as the best Golf Course in the Western Cape is 18km away from Dolphin House. Clubs may be rented if you did not bring your own.

 

Beaches

Brekfis Bay is right in front of Dolphin House (150m).  The beautiful Onrus beach is also only 4.9km away.  The famous Blue Flag Grotto Beach is close by.  There are many other wonderful beaches in and around the area and you will be spoiled for choice.

 

Brewery Tour and Craft Beers

Take the 34km scenic drive to Stanford where you can enjoy their selection of craft beers at the Birkenhead Brewery and a meal at their restaurant.

 

Sea Kayaking

Weather permitting, guided Sea Kayaking tours depart on a daily basis from the Old Harbour.  This promises to be a most enjoyable experience and children over 12 may also partake.

 

Horse Trails

Horse trails are offered in the Hemel en Aarde valley for complete novice as well as experienced riders.

 

Bicycle trails and tours

Various options are available.  Fat bike tours along the beach are great fun and you can choose a distance that matches your fitness level.  Regular mountain bikes may also be rented and their are many trails in and around Hermanus.

 

Abalone Farm Tours

Participate in a very interesting tour of the Abagold Abalone Farm situated in the new harbour of Hermanus.  After the tour you may sample some of the Abalone produced at the farm.

 

Scuba Diving

This activity is offered throughout the year onboard a 36′ Sailing Catamaran.  Experience the unique sea life of the Atlantic Ocean.  All gear is provided.
